Video for Jazzy Tourism by Kisk (Lopazz vs Eddie Zarook Remix), commissioned by Apparel Music for its first release.
 
The footage, shot on the smoothly sliding tramway of Porto, required almost no post production, just some editing for synchronizing events… which makes quite a difference from Michel Gondry’s masterpiece for Star Guitar by The Chemical Brothers (to which this video is a little tribute).

I collaborated with AfterPixel and Liquid Communication at some proposals for the offline campaign for the launch (2010) of AUDI A1.
 
The ideas revolved around technologies such as QR codes, social networking, alternate reality games.

Abstract

Economy, society and environment are three entwined pillars of sustainability. Many efforts converge already on ecological and economical aspects of sustainability and we are slowly (and hopefully) adapting to make a better use of our resources.
 
As foreseeing and knowledgeable use of physical resources is today the major priority of sustainable trends in production and distribution of physical goods, I tried to apply similar measures to the production and particularly to distribution of cultural goods in order to address social sustainability.
 
In this field of sustainability the materials that are produced and exchanged are not physical resources, but intangible information such as ideas, opinions and meanings. Therefore I tried to remodel the exchange of cultural resources through an optimized consumption of media content.
 
Among the priorities of social sustainability we can mention: promoting social interaction, fostering cultural pluralism, supporting cultural enrichment and rising education level. The underlying logic of our proposal is to spread ideas from one person to another, This transmission of memes would work on two axis, vertically opening a dialogue between popular culture and classical literature and connecting people from different cultures.
 
Conceived in this perspective, “Gem” is a social software (a web-based service), designed for media consumers, which merges benefits from participative media collections and semantic social network. The system relies on user-centered (prosumer-centered actually) connections between media excerpts.

SNER

SNER (Secret Noise Explorer Recorder) is a tool for discovering hidden noises in an intuitive and efficient way. Using electro-magnetic sensors SNER can record signals out of audible ranges and bring them to earable frequencies. SNER allow us to explore reality in a different way and to shift our perception of objects. MyOS

MyOS

MyOS provides a new structure and representation of the activities performed by the user on its computer. The focus is on merging real life relations with the informative ones, so to represent chained digital events as fictional stories. MyOS organizes data as a sequence of scenes (events) that are produced within stories. A story is composed by a number of scenes, that are constituted of elements. These smaller bricks include people, places, dialogues and objects.

Bio(a)ware

Bio(a)ware is networked device (SPIME) which incorporate a real living vegetal interface acting as media (channel of information) in the apartment. The garden’s health and status reflects the owner’s responsible and sustainable behaviour. Our team’s reference framework origins from our symbiotic relation to nature, the role of the garden in our home and how living organisms could be used to visualise data and communicate with people. We have assumed that one of the primary reasons people have difficult to develop sustainable behaviours, is that we do not have sufficient awareness of the impact of our behaviours.

Surprise

The project Surprise aimes to enhance the experience of shopping adding some funny surprises in the retail shop, mainly around the fitting room area. The introduction of unexcpected funny events during shopping can shift and renew the customer experience and make shopping more pleasant. The system is based on a number of interactive media that are triggered by people’s natural actions, without adding any artificial action layer. These media (short clips, voices, lighting messages) are integrated (hid) into to showroom architecture, appearing just when they are meant to produce the surprise.
 
 

eScent

eScent

eScent is a simple portable device that rely on the sense of smell to enhance the communication between people. In the near future, beside text, audio and video, communication will integrate an additional layer focusing on the sense of smell, which will help trigger memories and emotions. The device is essentially a recorder/player of smells, pretty much like a digital camera. Its wireless connection to computers or mobile phones, allows managing its content, sending and receiving the information about the fragrances. This transfer can be done in real-time (i.e. during a phone call) or delayed (i.e. a file attached to an email).
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

True Design (Dubai) asked me to design a promotional video for their agency in Dubai. Soundtrack by Ashtray Productions.

The immersive communication project created a benchmark document of current and next generation developments in the area of immersive communication, gesture recognition and other related, tangible user interfaces. It analysed these developments with a focus on usability, intuitiveness and naturalness of user interaction, and developed a set of recommendations about the use of gesture recognition interfaces.
 
Experientia then imagined possible applications of gesture interface technology, creating a portfolio of concepts modelled around user needs in the areas of communication, organisation and entertainment.

The workshop focused on the development of an interactive mulitmedia artwork linking real gestures to simulated physical models.
 
The experiments arised a discussion on how user’s haptic experience build a mimetic link by which the visitor interpret the piece.
 
Programming relied on Processing and Max/MSP/Jitter, with a particulr focus on my side to the library Mass Spring Damper by Nicolas Montergmont for Max.
